An off-season cycling tour in Sardinia is a surprisingly pleasant adventure! Exploring the open roads with its wonderful scenery, food and history even throughout the wintertime. Sardinia’s never ending rolling hills and coastal roads reflect the warming rays of the Mediterranean sun can make for your perfect getaway and cure for wintertime blues.
This tour starts from the historic city of Oristano, Easily accessible from Cagliari airport. Our chosen accommodations and packaged services prepared for you will only amplify your active holiday retreat experiences and memories to share.
If you happen to be in Europe or just crave for cycling in more temperate climate, come to Sardinia and ride a bike! We will take you on two loop rides from Oristano; one along the coast in the Sinis Peninsula and one inland to rich thermal springs enjoyed by Roman Legions. Ride along the coast to watch the sunset on the sea for your third stage. The final stage will bring you back inland across a ridge of the green coast via a mining town, now turned into a mineral-geologic museum to your final destination in Guspini, where satisfyingly there are several options for an easy and convenient departure by frequent bus rides to Cagliari or to the local train station.

Day by Day

DAY 1 arrival to Oristano
Welcome in Oristano. It is located in the west-central coast of Sardinia. This little city (about thirty thousand inhabitants), is famous for its horserace which takes place in the days of carnival, called Sartiglia. Your hotel is located in the first way of the horserace, but don’t worry, it takes place only in February. Meet and Greet, with BTS rapresentative and we’ll fit your bikes and introduce you to each day ride. Then a welcome aperitif together at the hotel bar.

DAY 2 Tharros and the Sinis Peninsula. Distance 54 km / 33,5 mi all flat.
Loop bike ride to Cabras, Tharros, Oristano. Today departure for the peninsula of “Sinis,” where there are plenty of ponds and lagoons and where, depending on the season, you will be able to see wonderful pink flamingos. You’ll pass through Riola Sardo and then ride over the Cabras lagoon, visit the ruins of the Punic-Roman port city of “Tharros” with a breathtaking view. The tour will continue in Marina di Torre Grande where you can stop for a light lunch.

DAY 3 Fordongianus and SPA roman ruins. Distance 60 km / 37 mi rolling hills.
Loop bike ride from Oristano by Tiria, Siamanna. Today you cycle in the direction of the Fordongianus On the way you can stop in the village to visit the ruins of a still active Punic-Roman thermal SPA area. Steamed up, cross the Campidano flat and skirt the Temo river to come back into the medieval city of Oristano.

DAY 4 Portu Maga and the Green Coast. Distance 54 km / 33,5 mi; rolling hills.
Bike ride from Oristano to Portu Maga via Arborea, Marceddì. Departure from Oristano to cross the gulf of the same name, through Arborea and the typical fisherman village of Marceddì. After crossing the lagoon of Marceddì it begins the fantastic Costa Verde with its majestic scenery and its unspoiled landscapes. You will come to Portu Maga and stay in a hotel with a fantastic view on the sea. Tonight you can not miss a fantastic dinner at the hotel restaurant “il Corsaro Nero” and do not miss an unforgettable sunset.
Lodging: le Dimore de “il Corsaro Nero” in Portu Maga. Dinner included at hotel restaurant.

DAY 5 Guspini & the Old Mines of Montevecchio. Distance 50 km / 31 miles hilly and flat.
Bike ride from Portu Maga to Sardara via Montevecchio. You leave the hotel and ride along the coast and then back towards the mine area of Montevecchio. The function of the mining area was active until 1991 and from there onwards there was a relentless depopulation of the area, but with the establishment of the Geo-Mining Park, and the Environmental History of Sardinia, Recognized by UNESCO, this area has become a resource for active tourism.In the hotel a confortable SPA with swimming pool will be waiting for you.

DAY 6 Arrivederci
after breakfast end of the tour – train (in San Gavino Monreale) or private transfer available to Cagliari or other destination on the island

EXTRA DAY Villanovaforru & Marmilla region . Distance 59 km / 31 mi flat and rolling hills.
Bike ride from Guspini to Villanoforru via Pabillonis. Leaving Guspini you’ll ride on the Campidano flat untill the Monreale castle where starts the climb to Villanovaforru.
Lodging: B&B Sa Muredda.
