WELCOME to the bike tour that brings together the passions for cycling, for the culinary arts and wines.
The secret to longevity is only a taste away. Pedal in the heart of Sardinia to discover the local diet and traditions, which contribute to its Blue Zone status and record number of centenarian inhabitants.
As we cycle up an appetite, take cooking classes offered by renowned chefs of the island who bring the fresh Mediterranean flavors out of traditional delights. You will cook classic Sardinian dishes, such as Malloreddus, Culurgiones and Fregola. You will prepare dishes of locally grown greens, fresh fish and meat with delicate and exquisite flavors. Savor the intense tastes of local olive oil and let’s not hold back for a wine and cheese tasting either on this unique tour.
While cycling, you will pedal in fantastic scenery, experiencing the majestic sites such as the Montiferru mountain range and the undulating hilly region called Marmilla. You will visit the Punic-Roman ruins of THARROS and the mysterious archaeological complex site, SU NURAXI (IL NURAGHE) of Barumini. Let’s pull over and take a swim in the sea, which Sardinia is famous for to round out our tour. The tour includes 7 days and 6 nights in luxury hotels, (two night in each accommodation) but it is possible to add some extra days, starting from Alghero or ending in Cagliari if you prefer (for custom inquire).

Day by Day
DAY 1 Welcome to Alghero, the Catalan city
Meet at Alghero airport and transfer to fabulous lodging in front of the sea – Bike fitting. Optional, city tour with bike test or with walk. Lively and pretty city meets a new cosmopolitanism. Welcome dinner at “ai Tuguri” restaurant. Lodging: Villa Mosca or Las Tronas. Alghero
DAY 2 Capo Caccia & Vermentino wine area . Distance 54 km / 33mi, mostly flat
Cycling: round trip from Alghero to Capo Caccia and Palmadula. Pedaling towards north Sardinia, we will encounter terrific beaches and landscapes; we will arrive to the cliff of Capo Caccia where is possible reach the sea by the narrow stairs. Who want, can ride untill Argentiera beach. go back to the hotel and enjoy the first cooking class to our friend Bastianina house. Lodging: Villa Mosca or Las Tronas, Alghero
DAY 3 Santu Lussurgiu, Bosa & Culurgiones Ravioli. Distance from 44 up to 90 km/27 or 55 mi, rolling hills & mountain
Cycling: bike ride from Alghero to Bosa and transfer to Santu Lussurgiu. You depart Alghero biking up on beautiful uplands, viewing unforgettable landscapes, we will arrive to Bosa for admire the west coast and the Malaspina castle. For who want ride more, the uphill to Cuglieri await him. Finally you arrive to Santu Lussurgiu, which has a characteristic structure of an amphitheater, with its ancient stone houses built in concentric configuration! Get ready for cooking class at Antica Dimora: our chef will introduce the preparation of ravioli Culurgiones or capocollo: enjoy it. The gourmet dinner will include tasting the local cheeses and cuts of the fabulous Stinco di Bue Rosso. Lodging: Antica Dimora del Gruccione in Santu Lussurgiu
DAY 4 Oristano, Sinis Peninsula & Local Olive Oil. Distance: 67 km / 41mi, downhill and flat.
Cycling: Today we will bike along country roads passing through small villages such as Narbolia or Bonarcado. Soon we will arrive on the Campidano flat in Riola Sardo we will have a olive oil tasting hardly forgettable. Then straight to the Sinis Penisnula where there are plenty of lagoons and wetlands, where depending on the season, you will be able to see wonderful pink flamingos and where you can visit the ruins of the Punic-Roman port city of “Tharros” with a breathtaking view.
Finally we will arrive in Oristano, a medieval town of horsemen, famous for its SARTIGLIA (a medieval horse race). Dinner included on the oldtown restaurant.

DAY 5 Gesturi & Sa Giara Highplateau. Distance: 69 km / 43 mi, flat and rolling hills terrain.
Cycling: Bike inland from Oristano through small villages and country roads enjoying the landscape of the vast flatlands towards the central hilly regions of Sardinia. Then we will ride around the Giara Plateau, a 600m highplane up on the sea level where they live a lot of wild little black horses called GIARINI. See murals of the small towns as Villaurbana (also famous for the handmade bread) or Villa Sant’Antonio each with their own prehistoric Nuragic fortified towers, some towers with villages and others with remnant tombs of the giants. Then again through Genoni and Nuragus (which give the name to the famous Nuragus white grape). Arrive to Gesturi in the afternoon where you can walk on the old town.

DAY 6 Flumendosa Lake & Barumini World Heritage site. Distance: 55 km / 34mi all flat.
Cycling: Loop bike ride on the Marmilla subregion. Start with your bike ride inland descending towards Nurallao, about 10 kilometers to the town of Gesturi. The area has long been populated; even before roman times and evidences can bee see on your ride! During the history it was chosen by locals as a spot to grow wheat and build Nuraghi towers. After that, climb to Villanova Tulo and enjoy the scenic downhill to the Flumendosa Lake, with amazing views and ride to the small villages and hamlets. Stop in some of them to know the local centenarians “GrandPa & Ma”.
Enjoy a local Wine Tasting at the Cantina Olianas in a neighboring town called Gergei before taking the downhill to Barumini.
In Barumini you will be able to take a guided tour and walk inside the Unesco World Heritage complex of Su Nuraxi. We will have a light lunch in Barumini before the visit at the Museum. go back to Gesturi for our farewell dinner at B&B.

After a farewell breakfast all together, we arrange private transfer to Cagliari or Cagliari airport.

Notes: Our daily itinerary of cycling is designed to be a vacation, not a race! We will cover an average of 20 to 25 miles a day. Advanced cyclists who want to ride more can be accommodated. Backup transportation and support are always available.
