Discovering wild Island pedaling from Alghero to Guspini: for avid cyclists

Could 60 miles p/day be enough for your next bike tour in Italy?
We will provide for excellent accommodations, beautiful cycling roads and superb bicycles.
You will spend a week biking all around in Rugged Landscape of the island: from the west coast, (Alghero and Bosa), to Medieval villages and Roman towns, such as Santu Lussurgiu. You can visit Punic-Roman ruins complex of Tharros or visit the protected beach of Is Arutas made of pure white little pebbles. You will cycle to Bosa and through the Montiferru region. Then you will ride down to Fordongianus, where you will be able to visit the old Roman SPA. Your final destination is Guspini just before your last ride in Costa Verde, a pretty, wild coastal area, with terrific roads. Cagliari airport is not too far: we can arrange a private transfer or there are several buses available during the day.

Day by Day

DAY 1 Benvenuti to Alghero & the Coral Coast
Meet & greet in Alghero, bike fitting and Orientation. Alghero is a lively and pretty city and a flourishing tourist attraction not only for the summer masses and elite tourism, but also for a new cosmopolitanism. Bike-test on the old-town. where you can take pleasure walking around or sitting down while enjoying a drink at sunset before a seafood dinner! Overnight in Alghero.

DAY 2 Stintino & Asinara Island. Distance 145 km / 90 mi (or less). Ascent: 1080 m.
Loop bike ride from Alghero to Stintino and return via Nurra region. Start from your hotel and cycle through the vineyards of northern Sardinia. Take a coffee break in Stintino; from here, you can admire the island of Asinara, which was the location of an secluded and active prison. Ride back to Alghero to enjoy the Catalan city. Less distance is possible visiting the Argentiera old mine village and Capo Caccia cliff. Overnight  in Alghero.

DAY 3 Bosa to Santu Lussurgiu: Malvasia wine and Medieval hilltowns. Distance 87 km / 54 mi. Ascent: 1700 m.
Cycling: from Alghero to Santu Lussurgiu. Skirt the coast on rolling hills terrain. You depart Alghero biking up on beautiful uplands. Admire the massive castle Malaspina in Bosa. You will arrive in Santu Lussurgiu after the climb to Montiferru mountain. Overnight in Santu Lussurgiu

DAY 4 Montiferru & Sinis Peninsula. Distance 104  / 64 mi. Ascent: 675 m.
Cycling: from Santu Lussurgiu to Oristano. This route will bring you to the peak of Montiferru and cycling through small Sardinian-Spanish style villages. After Cuglieri, it’s all downhill towards the sea with its suggestive landscape. Then the ride continues on towards the Sinis Peninsula, where depending on the season you will be able to see pink flamingos. Overnight in Oristano.

DAY 5 Fordongianus & Tirso River. Distance 101 km / 62 mi. Ascent 1223 m.
Loop bike ride from Oristano to Fordongianus. Heading inland away from the flats, you will ride through charecteristic Sardinian towns, following the Tirso river.  This loop will take you to Fordungianus once enjoyed by Roman Legions and still by visitors today in modern Spa’s.  Enjoy this volcanic landscape and its rolling hills cycling there and back while passing next to Pre Nuragic tombs, Nuragic villages, and Roman ruins. Overnight in Oristano.

DAY 6 Guspini & the Green Coast. Distance 90 km / 52 mi. Ascent: 1473 m.
Cycling: from Oristano to Guspini via Portu Maga. Our final stage will take you on flats to a fishing village before you ride inland up and across a ridge of the Green Coast.  Its roads wind up and down bringing you to a mining town, now turned into a mineral-geologic museum just before your final destination to the town of Guspini visable below.
